Prof. Muhammad Faruque recently participated in the Berggruen Institute’s Future Humans program at the Casa dei Tre Oci in Venice, where he presented his work on "consciousness" alongside a remarkable global gathering of top-ranked scientists and philosophers, including Carlo Rovelli, Michael Levin, Donald Hoffman, Karl Friston, Alva Noë, and Anil Seth.
In a dialogue with philosopher Alva Noë, Prof. Faruque discussed the crucial relationship between consciousness, attention, and spiritual practice, and how practices of attention might illuminate dimensions of consciousness that are often overlooked.
The intellectually rich and productive gathering highlighted the importance of bringing physics, neuroscience, philosophy, and spirituality into conversation to better understand the nature of consciousness.
Prof. Faruque also enjoyed personal conversations with Karl Friston, Carlo Rovelli, and Donald Hoffman. He expressed his gratitude to the Berggruen Institute for creating a space for such genuinely interdisciplinary dialogue.
