TIAIS Honors Dr. Hina Khalid with First Book Completion Grant

We are pleased to announce Dr. Hina Khalid of the University of Cambridge as the recipient of the TIAIS’ inaugural Book Completion Grant for her monograph, “Becoming Words of Witness: The Motif of Call and Response in Muhammad Iqbal and Rabindranath Tagore.” Her book offers a subtle comparative exploration of Iqbal and Tagore’s cosmological visions, especially their shared emphasis on divine creativity, the relationality of the finite and the infinite, and the dynamic interplay of call-and- response between God and the human being. In doing so, the author engages in a deep philosophical and theological demonstration of how human beings participate in the perpetual divine artistry of the cosmos, shaping their world in ways that both reflect and enact this primordial creativity. This study is a masterclass in comparative theology and will be an important contribution to the fields of not only Islamic studies, but also South Asian literature, comparative literature, and global philosophy. Dr. Khalid’s book will be the first title in the TIAIS’ Studies in Islamic Thought series published in partnership with Brill.
